According to certain data the Stone Bridge of Skopje was built in the 6th century, whereas in its present form it was raised upon the old foundation in the time of the Sultan Murat 2nd in the first half of the 15th century. This monumental building has undergone larger repairs through the centuries, but the bridge has still kept the primary shape.

Crossing over the bridge, you do not just cross over to the other bank of the Vardar River. This bridge also unites the cultures rooted and blooming in a single place, in the same city of Skopje, thus the bridge represents a corridor of civilization too. It connects the Macedonia square and the Old Town.
Death penalties were carried out on this bridge and also the execution of Karposh in 1689.
