Lampivaara's Amethyst Mine

In the middle of the Pyhä-Luosto National Park, is Europe's only working amethyst mine. The Lampivaara's Amethyst Mine is located at the top of the hill, walking takes about 2,5 kilometers from the parking, the trail is easy to walk to the mine. During the visit, the visitors will learn about the geology, history, physics and chemistry.
Why you should visit it
The Lampivaara's Amethyst Mine is probably the only jewel mines in the world that welcomes visitors. Amethyst has been born 2,000 million years ago, at the heart of the bedrock, the crystals are formed by pressure. The mine has the open mine, and visitors can search for their own amethyst rocks with them during the visit.
