Lokka Water Reservoir is one of the largest artificial lakes in Europe and is located upstream of Luiro in the northern parts of Sodankylä. Lake is 216 square kilometers. The storage pool has been built to regulate the amount of water required for Kemijoki's power plants. Next to the artificial lake is the village of Loka.
The filling of the lake began in 1967. The Lokka artificial lake joins the Porttipahta artificial lake on the Vuotso canal. The lake has several islands and a rich fish stock, which provides a livelihood for local professional fishermen, as well as recreational fishing opportunities for war villagers and locals.
