Samperi's Locomotive Road was named after Hugo Richard Sandberg. Sandberg organized Lapland's first machinerized lumberjack equipments and machines in the early 1910s. The machinery was brought from America, starting with two tracked locomotives.
The Locomotive Road went from Lattuna to Tulppio, where it branched in two directions: the edge of Maskaselä and the terrain of Pierkulinharju, Suurkovanselkä and Saijanvaara. The length of the road was 30-35 km. One of locomotives was restored in 1988 by Savukoski municipality and moved to its current location on the old road, in Tulppio
