Why locals love it

Screening everything from rare silent films accompanied by live pianists to modern classics and cutting-edge experimental works, Cinemateket is a perfect refuge from the biting Stockholm cold. Run by the Swedish Film Institute, it hosts around 600 screenings a year.

Why you should visit it

If you’re an avid filmgoer and uncharismatic shopping mall cinemas just aren’t your thing, be sure to check out Cinemateket. Each month’s programme has a handful of themes, so an Ingmar Bergman extravaganza is just as likely as a hefty dose of Buster Keaton. Opening hours vary, so check the programme beforehand.

Special tip

70 kr for regular tickets.
No screenings during the summer period.
Note that some foreign films are screened with Swedish subtitles only.
