Drottningholms slott is the Royal Palace and residence of the Swedish royal family. They do actually live there, although a big part of the palace is open for guided tours. Highly recommended to take one (even if you're a Swede)! Afterwards you can take a walk in the beautiful gardens and visit the so-called pleasure palace - the Chinese pavilion.

This is the place to indulge in history and architecture. Even as a Swede it is fascinating to walk through the royal chambers getting to know more about life as a royalty several hundred years ago. What about being washed every day with an audience or letting a life guard sleep in your bureau? The surroundings is a peaceful escape from the city.
The cheapest way to get here is to take the 5min bus ride from metro station Brommaplan. Also, if the flag is up the royal family is usually at home.
