Hello all. I'm learning that Södermalm is the happening area of Stockholm, but I've found lodging in either Södra Hammarbyhamnen or Kungsholmen. Both are similarly priced. Which area is best, cheaper restaurants, easier access to public transportation, clubs/bars? I'll only be there for 3 days in May.

Definitely Kungsholmen. Closer of downtown, easier to take any of the public transportation (subway/bus) and also a very beautiful area.

Stay in Kungsholmen, that is in the heart of Stockholm and you have access till subway and city buses (nr 3 and 4). Södra Hammarbyhamnen is mainly called Hammarby sjöstad, a pretty new eco friendly area where families in upper middle class lives. The restaurants and the whole surroundings to me is a bit artificial. Everything is too perfect...

In Hammarbyhamnen you have to take the tram "Tvärbanan" to Fridhemsplan and from there catch the subway to Södermalm (ie Skanstull or Medborgarplatsen) or if you are lucky catch a bus to Skanstull, but the tram and the bus don't go as offensiv as the subway.

From Kungsholmen to Södermalm you can take the subway direct to Södermalm in 20 minutes depending where you are, or change at the central station. Check SL.se for time table.

Have fun!

Sorry, the tram goes to Gullmarsplan, not Fridhemsplan...
