Why locals love it
Hunting pits are the visible remains of the hunting tradition of the area of Hossa. Some are individual, some of the traps are gathered in a several trap systems. The original diameter of the wells was mostly a couple of meters, the depth was almost the same. Nowadays, they are distinguished by low pits between ponds and ridges.
Why you should visit it
Trap pits have been practiced for thousands of years in Finland. Suomussalmi is known to have been hunted in the wells at the end of the 19th century. Hossa's cuttings are probably older.
