Why locals love it
To locals, Carriageworks is almost holy. It's an exhibition space, performance space and the HQ for many innovative arts companies. Cornerstone bar and the Anna Schwartz gallery are on site, and in its spare time it plays host to fashion week, a sumptuous farmers market every Saturday plus an arts and crafts market on the first Sunday of the month.

Why you should visit it
Carriageworks has something for everyone; and it's the gift that keeps on giving. The exhibitions are broad in scope. The performances are too. And the farmers market is brimming with deliciousness - fruit, veg, artisanal street food and simple pleasures. Plus there's an abundance of free samples throughout; olives and dips and chorizo, oh my!
Special tip
If for some strange reason you're travelling with a blunt knife, you can fix it at the farmers market; there's a mobile knife sharpening stall.
