The Eathouse Diner1
Why locals love it
Salty 'n' sweet - a cacophony of Miami coloured walls, Amazonian murals, tribal masks and saucy découpage, anchored by the traditional set-pieces of a 50s diner. There's the bright-red countertop, chrome plated stools, well quiffed waitstaff and chequered accents. It's Redfern's cabinet of curiosities, with a seasonal menu that never disappoints.
Why you should visit it
It's easier to tell you why you shouldn't come here. Don't visit if you like simplicity. Or if you like crisp white walls. Definitely don't come here looking for peace and quiet. And if you want predictable dishes served by stiff-necked waiters then you will be deeply disturbed by what you find. Even frightened, perhaps.
The Woolpack Hotel is across the road - a cheap and cheerful pub with outdoor seating. Perfect for pre (or post) dinner drinks.
