Why locals love it

This is one of the world's largest collections of contemporary Chinese art. In fact, contemporary doesn't quite do it justice, because the gallery only procures work created after 2000. So it's not contemporary. It's NOW. Think of it like yum-cha at the forefront of your subconscious, served by the imagination squad of the next great superpower.

Why you should visit it

This is no rabbit hole. It's a wonderland of hyper-creativity, technical brilliance and cultural resonance... plus a few mind-games. So undo your brain's top button and gorge on kaleidoscopic genius, set over 4 levels of bright-white exhibition space that includes a theatrette, library and teahouse.

Special tip

The gallery changes the work on display every six months and has a HUGE party to celebrate. Keep an eye out on their website for details.

This is one of the best galleries I've been to in the world. There are always great exhibitions of contemporary Chinese artists and has a great tea room that serves vegetarian dumplings.
