Very few locals know about this story actually. The "L" in the Old Town Square is hidden from view all summer by the terraces of a café. Only in winter is this sinister spot revealed. Even then, the story and significance of the "L" remains elusive.

In 1695, a drunken priest killed a barmaid by throwing a ceramic tankard of warm beer at her head. Executions were forbidden inside the Old Town but in a fit of rage the onlooking crowd dragged the priest outside and killed him. Today, a stone "L" marks the spot of the first and only execution carried out within the walls of the Old Town.
The "L" is only visible during the winter months, but the story lives on. Keep your eyes peeled for ghosts.
