Looking for a drugstore

(10 answers)
By Inna Traveller September 21, 2016

Hello everyone,

I have just moved to Tallinn for a couple of months and was taken aback by the lack of drugstores (what I mean is a store that sells cosmetics, household cleaners, and detergents). Perhaps I am not looking in the right places?

I am looking for something like DM, Rossmann, Boots, CVS etc.

In Estonia these specialized drugstores are rare. A couple of years ago there was a chain called "Watsons", but they shut down the stores - the concept simply didn't work in the local market.

Estonians prefer to buy these items in the super- or hypermarkets (Selver, Rimi, Prisma etc). There are specialized cosmetics stores chains like I.L.U. and some cleaners and detergents are sold in household stores like Koduekstra. You can find these stores in the the big malls.

we do not have drugstores in that form.

Rimi, Selver, Prisma and Maxima sell the stuff you are looking for, you just need to find the right aisle in the shop

Hey Inna, our drugstores are totally different :) They don't typically have things that are not related to health. I recommend a hyper-sized Rimi or a bigger Selver that has a decent section of everything that you've mentioned :)

In Viru Center Bus Terminal there is something similar, but not sure what they are selling nowadays. And like you have been told, Estonians get home chemicals for supermarkets. Or mostly cosmetics from stores.

Agree. I believe almost any grocery store sells the aforementioned products.
Cosmetics, however, are available in drug stores. If you're looking for some nature or health friendly household products you may want to pop into Mahemarket, Ökosahver (http://www.sahver.ee/) or other places like that.
