Why locals love it

Uus Maailm, or the “New World”, is sometimes referred to as “the hippie district”, but it's really just a community of active people who truly care about their living environment and want to promote community participation. It doesn't really have official borders – it's the people that make the district.

Why you should visit it

The average Estonian is extremely adept at sneaking out of home without crossing paths with a neighbour, thus eliminating the embarrassing possibility of having to utter the most dreaded of words - “hello”. The people in the Uus Maailm district are not like average Estonians and you might actually make friends.

Special tip

If you are in Tallinn in September, head to their street festival and enjoy a diverse program of just about everything funky you'd want to do.

Area that has passionate locals and vibe that can be even more hipstery than quite well known Kalamaja.

What is the festival called? Any idea at which dates it happens in 2017? Which streets of Uus Maailm do you recommend to visit?
