Why locals love it

The Tartu Art Museum is housed in the Pisa Tower of Tartu. This oddly leaning building looks as if it was just a little bit tipsy, but then again how sober is art? Tartmus house was built in 1793. Due to the soggy bank of the River Emajõgi the house has tilted 5,8 degrees, which is greater than the Pisa tower.

Why you should visit it

Today, Tartu Art Museum is filled with interesting meet-ups with newer and also older art from the 20th and 21st century.

Special tip

Events like seminars, concerts and film screenings are also on the bill and guided tours around the house are available.

The museum has regular changing exhibitions which focus on both classical Estonian art from their collection and also introduce contemporary Estonian art. It's not too big, so an hour is usually enough to get yourself aquainted with the exhibitions and explore the famous slanted house!

Actually, they lost the permanent exhibition several years ago to have more room for temporary exhibitions. They have constantly 3-4 things going, some more modern and international, some exhibiting large retrospectives of Estonian art tradition or little less-known gems from their and other museums' collections. They also have a little nice museum shop where you can equip yourself with books, postcards, and various cool mementos to bring back home.
