Why locals love it

Werner is an important part of the university town having been the meeting place for professors, students, artists, poets and writers since 1882. The cafe serves the biggest cappuccinos in town and don't even bother trying to ignore the cake stand...

Why you should visit it

In addition to the cafe downstairs their 2nd floor lounge is one of the best hidden places to have a delicious dinner and relax. The worse the cake looks, the better it tastes. Trust me. Definitely try the carrot cake or 'Brita' cake.

Legendary place. One of the oldest and most loved cafes in Tartu. It's almost always crowded and there is a line for those wonderful cakes and tarts and truffles that make you dizzy just by looking at them. One of the must-visit's of Tartu. Always full of locals, too.

Gotta say, I would pass on this place. Service was a bit surly, and the food was really...not good. We had savory; probably should have stuck with sweet.

Coffee was good but carrot cake didn’t taste like carrot cake, although it wasn’t bad either. Overall I liked the place.

These cakes were a bit too old-fashioned to me. Quiche was far from what it should taste. But the cake I tried (Kuninganna) was very good! As Piret said - don't choose by the fancy decorations!
