Easter in Tbilisi

(1 answer)
By Lidia Traveller March 28, 2017

Hello everyone, I'll be arriving in Tbilisi in the evening of Easter Saturday and would like to experience some of the Easter Festivities. Which church would you recommend for midnight mass, then what to do on Easter Sunday and Monday. I read that locals attend the cemetery to visit relatives on Easter monday. I'm an observer of life and prefer to see cultural events/activities before any of the usual tourist spots. Many thanks in anticipation! Lidia

On Easter night you can go to any church in Tbilisi, for example Kashueti (on Rustaveli ave.), Sioni (next to the famous new bridge), or to the biggest cathedral Sameba (there will be the Patriarch also).
On Easter Monday I will recommend to go to Mtskheta (20km from Tbilisi), an old capital. There u can see the cemetery (without traffic), big and famous cathedral Svetitskhoveli and old town as well. If u'll have more questions about transportation, I can answer :)

Hello Natia, thank you for your quick reply and recommendations. I think I will go to Sameba cathedral on Easter Saturday midnight mass. I'm staying in the Old Town, what's the best way to get to the cathedral and most importantly get back to my hotel, as I believe public transport ends at midnight.
It depends, in which part of old city u'll be accommodated. To Most of them u can walk, it's safe. But as I remember on Easter night public transport works whole night. I will check and let u know
