Local

I’m Mariam, an energetic “Tbilisian” and certified guide. I arrange tours all around Georgia and offer lots of local fun to travellers. I have experience in tour operating for 2 amazing years.

My city has a very special atmosphere, and I know plenty of local places where you can best experience it.

I’m especially good when it comes the local nightlife. After dark, Tbilisi’s old, hospitable soul becomes young, wild and free. Its bohemian vibes and unique style of music and dance are, in my opinion, worth discovering from a local’s perspective.

I’ll be happy to host you in Georgia!

Description

The Kakheti region in the eastern part of Georgia has more than 300 varieties of native grapes and a method of winemaking that dates back 8000 years.

We’ll reach the Kakheti region in around an hour, crossing hundreds of vineyards along the way. The entire journey will take approximately two hours, but we’ll make several stops and you won’t notice the distance.

We’ll first visit the village of Badiauri to taste local bread that’s baked according to old traditions, and even bake some of our own!

With happy stomachs and smiles on our faces we’ll continue on to Signagi (also known as the ‘City of Love’), a medieval town with a fortification wall spanning four kilometres.

Our next stop will be the Bodbe Monastery, one of the holiest places in Georgia. It has a peaceful atmosphere and a beautiful terraced garden.

Finally, we'll visit one of the best wineries in the country. We’ll taste wines made using Georgian and European technologies, take a tour of the wine tunnel (the biggest wine storage facility in Georgia with a permanent temperature of 12–14 °C), enjoy a masterclass in local cuisine, and possibly have lunch in the restaurant.

Great little adventure! Recommended!
We booked this trip last minute as we thought it looked like the most interesting of all day trips around Tbilisi. We liked that it offered a wide range of sites and a little wine tasting included!

Mariam and David (the best driver in Georgia) picked us up from the hotel promptly the next morning so that made it very easy. Mariam was full of stories and taught us lots about Georgia and all the things we were passing through the countryside. It made the journey really fun and relaxed.

Throughout the day we visited a beautiful monastery and learned lots, explored a stunning walled town and peered through the mist out onto vast fields below. We then got to see the amazing caves in which the traditional wine is stored. So big! There we also had great fun getting our hands dirty, making local bread, bbq pork, sweets and dumplings. A great way to fill up before we started our journey back.

A full day and great to explore outside of Tbilisi. We're really thankful to Mariam and David for making it a great adventure for us.

Georgian sense of humour is great :)

Do your trip with these guys. It'll be worth it.

Breathtaking views
Since the weather forecast showed rain in the afternoon, I was worried that I won’t be able to see the great view of mountains, So I asked to skip Mutskheta. Mariam was very nice and flexible to accept it and even changed the order of the stops for me.

Thanks to her and the professional driver, David who had managed the bumpy dirt road up to the top of the mountain, I was able to see the spectacular view before it started to get cloudy. On the way back, the sun came out and I could see the beautiful color of water at the Jvari water reservoir, too.

I definitely recommend this tour full of picturesque places. You won’t regret even the weather may not be perfect, just meeting Mariam already is cheerful enough.
Wonderful personalized tour of Kazbegi region
went on this tour in April 2018.

Review of the tour operator:

I had a wonderful experience booking a tour with Marian. I decided to go to the Kazbegi Mountains about 24 hours before the tour; despite the short notice, Marian contacted me almost immediately to confirm the tour. She was friendly and very helpful in our correspondence - she wanted to make sure I got what I wanted out the trip. Because I booked the trip at short notice, she wasn’t to give the tour herself so she arranged for a colleague to handle the tour. Overall. Marian is lovely - friendly, knowledgeable, communicates well, passionate about her business and sharing her culture with visitors.

Review of the tour:

Overall, great experience.

I was picked up at my apartment on time. The tour consisted of a driver, a tour guide, and me. I needed to return to Tbilisi by 7pm, and we arrived on time back to my apartment. The total tour time was about 8 hours.

Car was clean and in good repair, and the driver very professional. Water was provided. The tour guide, Sofi, was friendly and extremely knowledgeable about all the various sites we visited. She was fluent in English.

The tour includes a variety of activities (paragliding, horseback riding) and sites to visit along the way to the mountain. Marian’s tour is designed to your preferences: for example, I didn’t want to do the outdoor activities, so the tour guide easily changed our itinerary to focus more on the historic sites. I also liked that we spent as much time (or as little) as I wanted at each site.

Marian checked in with the tour guide multiple times to make sure everything was going well. She also texted me after the tour to make sure I had enjoyed my day, which I really liked.

The only downside is that food is not included in the trip; we tried to go to a restaurant, but it was packed so we stopped at a gas station. I had to purchase my lunch, which was fine, but good to be aware of this.

Overall, this was a great day trip with a reputable tour operator. I’ve recommended Marian’s tours to my friends visiting the region, and they have had a wonderful with her.
Amazing and must try
First of all safe. You don’t have to worry I was completely in trust mood. The experience by itself was heavenly like experience. I hope you try it and enjoy it as much as we did.
Nice experiencet
Kazbegi's journey was very nice. Mariam and Tea, were very kind to us and guided us to discover the wonders of Georgia, without them we would never have seen them. I highly recommend this tour.

Very helpful and friendly guide
Mariam was friendly and explained to us in detail the plan of the day. Through the multiple stops in fortresses and monasteries she gave us historical remarks and interesting facts about each of them. Not only that but she also suggested a few good bars and clubs to go out in Tbilisi according to our more chill out/jazzy taste of music.
