We booked this trip last minute as we thought it looked like the most interesting of all day trips around Tbilisi. We liked that it offered a wide range of sites and a little wine tasting included!
Mariam and David (the best driver in Georgia) picked us up from the hotel promptly the next morning so that made it very easy. Mariam was full of stories and taught us lots about Georgia and all the things we were passing through the countryside. It made the journey really fun and relaxed.
Throughout the day we visited a beautiful monastery and learned lots, explored a stunning walled town and peered through the mist out onto vast fields below. We then got to see the amazing caves in which the traditional wine is stored. So big! There we also had great fun getting our hands dirty, making local bread, bbq pork, sweets and dumplings. A great way to fill up before we started our journey back.
A full day and great to explore outside of Tbilisi. We're really thankful to Mariam and David for making it a great adventure for us.

Description
The Kakheti region in the eastern part of Georgia has more than 300 varieties of native grapes and a method of winemaking that dates back 8000 years.
We’ll reach the Kakheti region in around an hour, crossing hundreds of vineyards along the way. The entire journey will take approximately two hours, but we’ll make several stops and you won’t notice the distance.
We’ll first visit the village of Badiauri to taste local bread that’s baked according to old traditions, and even bake some of our own!
With happy stomachs and smiles on our faces we’ll continue on to Signagi (also known as the ‘City of Love’), a medieval town with a fortification wall spanning four kilometres.
Our next stop will be the Bodbe Monastery, one of the holiest places in Georgia. It has a peaceful atmosphere and a beautiful terraced garden.
Finally, we'll visit one of the best wineries in the country. We’ll taste wines made using Georgian and European technologies, take a tour of the wine tunnel (the biggest wine storage facility in Georgia with a permanent temperature of 12–14 °C), enjoy a masterclass in local cuisine, and possibly have lunch in the restaurant.
