Georgian Supra: Dinner with a Local Family in Tbilisi

Enjoy an authentic Georgian dinner with a family of five in their home, and get an insight into supra – the toasting tradition that’s an important part of Georgian culture.
Duration 3 hours
Private tour available in English, Russian
Group tour pricing from 129 EUR per person
It started with a walking tour led my Maria, she spoke really good English and talked about the history of the neighbourhood and also showed us a really nice place to get wine and artisan cheeses from: Wine Gallery (we went there a couple of days later). After working up an appetite we met up with Giorgi (or Greg as he introduced himself, again good English) and headed to the families place. We got a warm welcome from the family and a tour of place. They also showed how the boys of the house did the barbecue in the yard. Then we sat down to the feast (supra) where we had all the traditional things: the toastmaster tamada (Greg), the drinking horns kantsi, many toasts and so much food and drinks it covered the whole table. Everything was delicious and we got to taste a lot of Georgian dishes and drinks until our bellies were full (and more). All this was accompanied by conversation about Georgian history, culture, traditions and us sharing our culture and history as well. The family was genuinely friendly and Maria and Greg helped with the translation (as the family didn't know much English). After the supra Maria and Greg accompanied us on the way home (we had that same route) where we continued our conversation about mixed topics. The general experience was full of joy, laughter, a lot of new knowledge and genuinely nice people. Thank you so much!
