A Tunnel of Torii Gates and Azalea

Nezu Shrine (根津神社)

Why locals love it

Want to see a tunnel of torii gates but you don't have enough time to visit Kyoto? Then visit this shirine, located in a tranquil corner in the local "shitamachi" area in Tokyo. It's crowded with tourists in the azalea season (not much as Sensoji in Asakusa, though), but is fairly calm in other seasons.

Why you should visit it

Nezu Shrine is a historic shrine with a tunnel of torii gates and beautiful garden with approximately 3,000 azalea bushes of different species. This shrine appears in famous novels by great writers in the Meiji era who used to live around here, such as Soseki Natsume and Ogai Mori.

Special tip

Azalea festival is held every spring from mid-April to the beginning of May. The entrance to azalea garden costs 200 yen during the festival.
