The Island Selkä-Sarvi's Fishing Base Camp is the largest and most unified ancient remnant area in the Perämeri's National Park. The area is located in the southern part of the island of Selkä-Sarvi. In the history of fishing, two booms can be distinguished from the last centuries.
The buildings and their artifacts, which have now been converted into museum use, tell of the vibrant fishing culture of the past and of the change that traditional fishing culture faced as the industry evolve with new tools and materials became more common.
The building stock of the Selkä-Sarvi fishing village has apparently been at its highest in the 19th century, and between 1930's to 1940's.
