Tips for local diners in Venice

Ciao a tutti! I will be travelling to Venice soon with my Mum and my sister. It's been my Mum's long time dream to see the city! Could you recommend some places to eat with reasonable/budget prices? Both for a quick cicchetti/lunch + spritz during the day, but also for a meal in the evening (not too expensive)? My Mum is 70+ years old so I'd prefer to avoid lenghty "where should we eat today" decision process while in Venice :) Any tips highly appreciated! Thanks a million! Magda

What a nice trip for you, your sister and your mum to take together! My husband and I live in the states but will be taking our third trip to Venice and will be renting an apartment. The last time we were there we rented an apartment in the Dorsoduro and found a couple of places where locals go. For cicchetti, there is Il Botegon o Cantinone da Schiavi on Fondamente Nani. It was fairly crowded so we didn’t go in but they are open all day until 8:30 p. m. Another nice restaurant in Dorsaduro was Ai Do Farai near Calle Cappeller which also attracted the locals. It was a bit pricey but not too bad and food was delicious. Menu was written on a board in Italian. Good luck and have a wonderful trip!
