The traditional foods of the Venice are linked to relationship the Serenissima had with the inland but more important with the faraway lands, reached thanks to long journeys by boat.
So you can find on the table baccalà (salted stockfish) from the Baltic routs, precious spices from Asia but also fresh vegetables from islands of the estuary like S.Erasmo, Vignole and obviously fish from the lagoon.
Venetians like to eat cichetti (appetizers) with a small glass of wine (ombra) either before lunch or dinner or often in place of those meals. Eating cichetti is mostly a social activity, you will see lots of locals hanging out in crowded bars and have their startes.
