Natural retreat in the centre of Vienna

Donauinsel

Why locals love it

The Donauinsel is a small island in the Danube river, which resulted when the river was regulated in the last century. Today it is a paradise for cyclists, joggers, inline skaters as well as locals who just want to hang out and slow down from the hectic city life.

Why you should visit it

Tourists can rent a bike and take a tour on the island, which is great fun with family and friends. As the island is very flat it is very comfortable to ride a bike there. A great event happens every year in the summer holidays. Then the Donauinsel turns into the biggest free-of-charge open air festival of Europe. A must-see in Vienna.

Special tip

Good to know: Free Wifi on the whole islands. Nearest underground stations: "Donauinsel" (U1), "Neue Donau" (U6)
