This day trip is well worth the price, as it is not cheap either. The views and scenery in Hallstatt are spectacular for their beauty, the only wish is that the tour could have lasted longer before having to return to Vienna. One downside was that the queues for the cable car were very long, we must have spent over 1 hour queuing altogether for going up and then coming down. The boat ride was very quick but the scenery around the lake is absolutely amazing.

Description

The day begins with a bus ride from Vienna to Gmunden, where we’ll briefly stop to admire the quaint Ort Castle. Located on an isle in Lake Traunsee and surrounded by mountain ranges, it’s a sight to behold.

We’ll then continue our journey to Hallstatt, a UNESCO-listed lakeside village at the base of a majestic mountain. Wander though its narrow lanes and admire its charming wooden buildings while getting to know its 7000-year history.

You’ll learn about the Hallstatt Salt Mine (in the past, salt was the region’s primary commodity) and visit the ossuary, featuring hundreds of hand-painted skulls dating back to the 18th century.

Next, admire Hallstatt’s beauty from the lake on a 20-minute boat tour. You’ll then have some free time for lunch or more sightseeing.

Finally, we’ll meet at the Salzbergbahn, the funicular that will take us up to the Skywalk observation deck for panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains.

Dream in Reality
It was a 4 hours bus ride going to Halstatt, the bus was comportable, we stop by a near lake which also amazing(sorry i forgot the place name).
Seeing Hallstatt was amazing, it;s picture perfect like you see in most travel photo. Experiencing it with your own was totally wonderful and the view of the lake was breathtaking.
Overall the tour was very good for the price we paid.
I will definitely come back to hallstatt in near time soon.
Better come during spring, autumn so you will see the serene of the lake and the overlooking houses in the mountains.

Wonderful relaxing day
Grab your own row if you can, even if you are with a friend. It’s a lot of hours on the bus so the extra elbow room will be welcome. Completely worth it and I think better than staying in Hallstatt directly. Ample toilet stops but bring your coins in case the toilets are not free!
