Lithuania was getting industrialized under Soviet rule ant that leaves us with some functional industrial moments like the Nuclear Power plant in Visaginas.

The model of the Power plant is exactly the same as the one was in Chernobyl and this is a reason this one doesn’t produce electricity anymore, but still employs 2 000 people, and it is open to visitors with almost all access.

It is built in a great forest by a big lake, that once was a middle of nowhere. And it is not only the power plant but a city of 40 000 population came together. All built rapidly up to 3 of 4 reactors, and 3 of 6 disctricts in the city of Visaginas didn’t reach the planned size due to Chernobyl tragedy. So it’s a big Soviet project, unfinished ambition, that is still alive and reminiscent of the times.

Power emploees will walk us through the Power plant all the way to the reactors and even stand on it, see the controls station, and all surroundings. We will meet locals who are in transition of purpose as the Power plant they have been working at is shutting down slowly but surely.

On the way back there are some National park sights that we should not miss.

Praise for Trakai Castle and Jewish History Group Tour
I thoroughly enjoyed this small group tour while in Lithuania. Excellent guide and fellow tourists...and the sites we saw were so compelling. Sometimes it's hard to book private tours on this website (guides are not that available/flexible I have far in advance if you want one), so I was switched to this group tour and enjoyed it even more. Give this site a try!
Best walking tour!
If you are in Vilnius you definitely need to join their walking tour of the Old Town and Užupis.

Alina, our guide, showed us places that you'd only see with a local.

We were also told about past and present history of the country and the town, visited the top sightseeing places and I specially enjoyed the time spent in the Užupis district.

The tour takes around 2.5 - 3 hours so you really get to see a lot.

100% recommended!
Brilliant tour!
The tour was really great! So many interesting stories and facts about Vilnius. We came away with a better understanding of Lithuanian people and culture. Couldn't have asked for a better guide.
