The name of this bookstore/cafe/art space comes from Langston Hughes, who was a busboy at a hotel before gaining clout as an American poet. Meant to be a community gathering place, Busboys and Poets is meant for dialogue over the shared experience of art and/or food.
There is an activist bent on this shop, as the owners designed it with critical inquiry and dialogue in mind. Loyalists and regulars are part of the Busboys and Poets "tribe" and frequent for coffee as much as they do for readings. They host many artist events in different genres and sell books of local, national, and international significance.
There are four shops nowadays, each with their own vibe! Check them out in each neighborhood, and definitely buy a book or two!
