The Emperor's House is the oldest tourist building in Lapland that was erected for travelers who were in danger. The house served food and provided protection to travelers in bad weather. The hunting lodge was baptized the Emperor's House for the visit of the Russian Emperor and Grand Duke of Finland. Alexander II ruled until 1882.
A visit to Aavasaksa was also planned in connection with the visit of Emperor Lapland. However, due to the unstable political situation, the Emperor's journey was canceled. The house represents a romantic mixed style that is a mixture of neoclassical, Karelian, Byzantine and Viking style.
The furnishings of the house are partly original. The ornate hut was restored in 1982. The Emperor's House is open in the summer.
