The tour begins with a 2-hour drive to Lake Bled, the famous glacial lake that surrounds Slovenia’s only natural island. The emerald-green water, enchanting Church of the Assumption, medieval Bled Castle perched atop a rocky cliff, and some of the highest peaks of the Julian Alps make the town of Bled postcard perfect.
We’ll take a walk along the lakeside promenade and enjoy the fairy-tale scenery. There’s even a legend that says it was the fairies that summoned the water from the surrounding mountains to flood the valley, and this is how the lake and the island came to be.
Next, we’ll drive up to the town of Bled to visit the museum at Bled Castle – the oldest castle in Slovenia, rising 130 metres above the lake.
Following a tour of Bled Castle, we’ll stop to enjoy the town’s famous ‘cremeschnitte’, a cake that has been made according to the original recipe since 1953.
We’ll then head to Ljubljana, whose charm lays in millennia of architectural history: picturesque bridges, the vast Tivoli Park, beautiful baroque façades, remains of the Roman city of Emona, and the medieval Ljubljana Castle.
After a tour of the city, we’ll drive back to Zagreb.
