The city museum is a must for everyone living in Zagreb because it brings the city's history closer to its residents. It often hosts very interesting exhibitions on particular subjects, thus allowing some lesser known information to reach the public. Unfortunately, temporary exhibitions are mostly in Croatian only.

The Zagreb City Museum gives an interesting overview of the city's past. It's a great starting point to learn about Zagreb and to actually understand its development throughout the ages. The museum building is a historical site itself - a former convent of the Poor Clares nuns. It exhibits an in situ preserved archeological site.
The museum displays some interesting collections by private donators, which can easily be missed if you don't pay attention to the small sign-plates.
