Baha'i Temple12
Why locals love it
This place has some wicked architecture, and it's surrounded by a gorgeous garden. People don't usually come to Chicago with the intention of schlepping all the way up to Wilmette to see a temple, but make no mistake, it's a breathtaking sight. Amidst a city with predominantly Catholic cathedrals, this Middle Eastern looking temple is distinct.

Why you should visit it
It's the only Baha'i Temple in North America. It also looks more like something you'd find in Istanbul. If you're a fan of cultural juxtaposition, it doesn't get much better than this. Making a trip up to the much more tranquil nearby Evanston will also be a fantastic break from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Special tip
As immaculate as it looks, this building's been around for about 90 years. Pretty old, by US standards!
