We took our first trip to Denmark recently and stayed in Copenhagen for about a week. Before leaving we found the Hygge and Happiness tour that looked like a lot of fun and a good way to learn about the culture and how people really live in Copenhagen.

Our guide to all things Hygge was Sandra. What an amazing person! Full of energy and enthusiasm and you could tell she truly cares about helping others to understand what an amazing place Copenhagen is.

The tour was wonderful as well. It takes you through some big tourist locations, but many many more smaller locations that you likewise wouldn’t find on your own. Even at the more touristy locations, Sandra provided a wealth of knowledge and much better history than you would likely find on your own. The tour also includes two pretty wonderful stops at a bakery and finally a kaffe shop. The food is amazing and the lattes are wonderful.

I highly recommend this tour (and Sandra!). If you want to learn about what makes Copenhagen such a happy place and find some of the hidden gems of the city, you should absolutely take this tour!

Description

The tour begins at Nyboder – the first public-housing project in the world, dating back to the 17th century. After strolling through the King’s Garden, we’ll continue our hunt for hygge in some of Copenhagen’s oldest streets. Pausing at the Stork Fountain just off Strøget, we’ll chat about the anti-establishment cultures the city has hosted over the years. Next up, we’ll stop at a local café and relax with a cup of coffee and a slice of cake – a great example of hygge culture.

From there, we’ll pass by the castles that house the government offices and the parliament, and talk about both the formal and informal ways that Denmark is governed. You’ll get to see the lovely, hidden library garden that Copenhageners visit when they need a quiet moment in the middle of the city. We’ll also pass by the impressive Royal Library before taking the harbour bus to Islands Brygge – an industrial area that has been transformed into a highly liveable urban neighbourhood. On our way there, we’ll chat about Denmark’s green-living initiatives.

A must do
Mie was wonderful! Her walking 🚶 was a fabulous look at the real Copenhagen way of life with just the right amount of perfectly cozy sights, tasty local food and interesting information. She really wanted us to share her love of Copenhagen and we did! She also helped us make decisions about what to see while here and how to best do it complete with a marked map. So happy we took the tour!
Amazing tour
This is not usual sight seeing tour. You will get to know the city from very local point of view which is great. Get ready for amazing stories of city's history and today's life. And chocolate tasting was yummy :) 10/10

Fantastic way to spend a morning!
Mie was fantastic and the tour was great. Got to see a few gems off the beaten track and enjoy some amazing pastries! We felt we had a much better grasp of hygge when we were done. Maybe we even managed to bring a bit home with us!
Had a beautiful day on the Hygge & happiness tour
My friend and myself don't often like "touristy" walking tours, so the Hygge and happiness tour was a perfect way for use to experience and learn about the Danish people from an actual Danish person. Groups are small, and ours was just the 2 of us so we had a private tour! Mie, our guide, was friendly, knowledgeable and funny. The tour is well constructed showing both the big, important landmarks in Copenhagen, but also lesser known little secrets about the city. By the end of tour you will feel you know so much more about Danish culture and Hygge, and can't help but walking away happier!

Booked the Hygge and Happiness tour for our first full day in Copenhagen. It was by far the best tour experience we've had in any of the European cities we've visited. Lucky for us, my wife and I were the only ones on the tour so it was a very personal experience. Lars was a wealth of knowledge and an awesome tour guide. We learned about things that you couldn't find on the internet. Since we were the only ones on the tour it was really nice that we could adapt it to what we wanted to see and do. Towards the end since we had time left, Lars, my wife, and I went to a cafe to relax and talk about a bunch of things, which we really enjoyed. Hearing a local perspective on world events was great. Lars also had a great recommendation for dinner at a cozy place where I got to try the national dish, stegt flæsk. Probably one of the best meals I had while in Copenhagen.
Urban Adventures may be a bit more expensive than other tours but it is well worth it. We passed some other tour groups that had 25+ people which in my opinion is too large and you don't get that personal feel.
We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Copenhagen. My advice would be to do it early in your stay so you can get a feel for the city and can revist any places you enjoyed.
