In this 3-hour long walking tour of Old Delhi, you will get to experience the best of India, its age-old culture and tradition. Your tour will begin with the guide picking you up from your hotel, thereby taking the metro (subway) to Old Delhi.
Experience the swanky and swift metro, the very lifeline of the city and reach Old Delhi to get started. Upon arrival, get bombarded with the history of this ancient city and witness the lifestyle and culture come to life while taking your stroll on the busy streets. As you make your way in the jewellery market of Chandni Chowk your first stop will be at the grand Jama Masjid (India’s second largest mosque), built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan.
Post this; visit the most colourful lane of old Delhi, Kinari bazaar and then stop for a quick snack (parantha, stuffed flat bread) break at a 150 year old eating joint! After the delicious break, make your way to the beautiful Gurudwara (Sikh Temple) and learn more about the selfless and humanitarian service of the community kitchen! We would suggest this trip to every tourist who wants to see the real Old Delhi and to know more about the Indian culture and traditions! During the excursion which was even 3 hours longer than first planned, we have seen the most important and beautiful places of Old Delhi! Our guide came to our hotel to pick us up and brought us back exactly to the same place so there was nothing to worry about! We also tried some Indian food which was very special and delicious! A wonderful experience! The Old Delhi Heritage Walk with Suraj made our visit to India really unforgettable! We hope to be back one day soon and to be a chance to go on the next adventure with Loco Adventura Travel! Thank you once again!
It is a crazy, eye-opening experience to see how it all functions. It shouldn't, especially when you see the wiring above you, but it does...somehow.
There is a pulse and energy that is unrivaled and it is fascinating. Unlike bazaar in North Africa and South East Asia you are surprisingly not hassled that much to go in peoples shops which was surprising, they take no for an answer. We went to an old street filled with heritage properties and a Jain (a hindu religion) temple then on to Gurudwara Sisganj Sahib (Sikh temple) which for me was the highlight. We had to take off our shoes and walk barefoot through the water (clean) before entering, we also had a headscarf to cover out head. Inside it was fabulous with music and seeing people pray, we then moved to the soup kitchen where they provide meals for the poor, needy and anybody else 3 times a day 7 days a week, completely run by volunteers and funded by donations people leave in the temple. Fantastic.
We helped make chapattis amidst the steaming cauldrons of food and see them served up.
We then headed to the spice market by auto-rickshaw where you fully get to experience the hair-raising traffic and "give way"/horn blowing system. We then had a late lunch before being returned to our hotel. Suraj was great and informative without being overbearing. Just the right amount of information and answered our questions expertly when asked. We were only taken to one shop specifically with the suggestion to buy something which was to be expected and is common, however it didn't ruin our experience.
Overall it was a great tour and excellent value compared to others and I would recommend. They also have a range of time options so you are able to fit it into your schedule.
