Locals don't really know much about the Jewish community that once lived in Bucharest. Most Jews fled or were forced to leave during WWII. Just a couple of the original streets and only three synagogues remain in this beautiful and dynamic neighbourhood. Nowadays the United Holy Temple synagogue houses the Jewish Museum.

This is one of the only places where locals and visitors alike can find out about this chapter of Romanian history. Founded in 1978, the museum is home to a large collection of artefacts, paintings by Romanian Jews, memorabilia from Jewish theatres and much more. Entrance is free however donations are appreciated.
For a complete overview, also visit the Great Synagogue. If you’re lucky, the rabbi will tell you more about Jewish culture in Romania.
