Why locals love it

Pik Lasel (also called La Selle mountain) is part of the Chaîne de la Selle range and is the highest peak in Haiti at 8,793 ft above sea level. Access the mountain through Furcy, where the cool air and pine forests are a welcome break from the heat of the city.

Why you should visit it

You can hike to and around the mountain without making the arduous walk to the peak itself. Locals rent horses for about USD$5 an hour (guide extra) and it's well worth the trip even if you don't go to the top. There's a waterfall about 1.5 hours up the mountain trail.

Special tip

Local children hire themselves out as guides. Pick one, agree on a price (a few USD), and send the rest packing or they will follow, talking nonstop.

This article mentions that it's also possible to visit Pic La Selle from the small town of Marigot, not far from Jakmel: https://visithaiti.com/things-to-do/pic-la-selle/ Anyone know if this is true?

Yes, you can hike in from the Jacmel side or the furcy side. On the furcy side the closest hotel is Rustik. Just be aware that it’s a long and strenuous hike.
