Description

As early as the 10th century, Jewish settlers had moved into Prague. Prague (and Czechoslovakia) was once home to the largest population of Ashkenazi Jews anywhere in the world and although nowadays the population is very small - officially the Prague Jewish Community has about 1500 members - the Jewish community left a significant mark on the city.

We'll see 4 well-preserved synagogues, including the oldest anywhere north of the Alps. You'll also visit the Old Jewish Cemetery, where up to 12 layers of graves lie atop one another; and where you'll find the resting place of Rabbi Loew, renowned in legend as the creator of the Golem. Prague is home to the largest collection of Judaica in the world and there is no other collection of historical Jewish artefacts like it anywhere in the world. This is the only Jewish Quarter that the Nazis failed to destroy.

We will visit several famous synagogues: the 13th-century Old-New Synagogue, the oldest synagogue north of the Alps; the Pinkas Synagogue, now a hallowed museum dedicated to the Czech victims of the Holocaust; the Klausen Synagogue, which contains a permanent collection of lore surrounding the Maharal and few more aswell!
