Vecāķi beach
Why locals love it
Sea has a special meaning for Latvians. It's not just a place to go sunbathing in summer, but also an inspirational place for walks in winter and anti-stress remedy to clear one's mind. Vecāķi is a northern neighbourhood of Riga and one of the 3 official seaside swimming places in Riga. It can easily be reached by train, bus and bike.
Why you should visit it
You can reach Vecāķi by bus No.29 or minibus No.200 (leaves from station in front of Origo shopping centre). Vecāķi is also easily reachable by train (and it's cheaper!). Only 25 minutes and you are there! Check schedule at www.pv.lv . You can also go by bike, using the official cycling route Riga-Mežaparks-Vecāķi, it will take 1,5 h.
Special tip
In 30 min walk to the left you can reach a breakwater. On the right from Vecāķi it's a nude beach. Further north from Kalngale, it's gay nude beach.
