Home for monkeys,
toucans...
Jardim Botânico16
Why locals love it
The place is the home for a research institute and its alleys, bushes and lakes are an invitation to a lot of reading and contemplation. It's perfect after a quick bike ride or running around the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, followed by a cooling walk around trees that are maybe older than 100 years.

Why you should visit it
This huge tropical garden was built by the emperor Dom João VI during the stay of the Royal Family in Brazil. You may see birds, monkeys and all kinds of animals there. Don't miss the Amazon garden with its examples of many species of native plants and trees found in the Amazon.
Special tip
A nice cafe inside the park, La Bicyclette, is an option for lots of treats that will give you an extra time before a large meal.
