Hear stories about the history of Stockholm, see sights of interest, get to know Swedish Christmas traditions and sample festive treats on an enchanting walk through the lantern-lit streets of Stockholm’s Old Town. You’ll discover what the Vikings were celebrating at this time of year, why a straw goat is a traditional Scandinavian Christmas symbol and why Protestant Swedes celebrate an Italian saint on December 13th.
After meeting near the charming Christmas market on Stortorget – Stockholm’s oldest square, we’ll walk along winding cobblestone streets past the Royal Palace, Stockholm Cathedral and the German Church to Stockholm’s narrowest alley – Mårten Trotzigs Gränd.
Halfway through the tour we’ll stop at one of the historical cafés in the Old Town for a cup of glögg (Swedish mulled wine) and pepparkakor (gingerbread). Once we’ve warmed up, we’ll continue exploring the atmospheric squares and streets to learn more about Swedish Christmas traditions.
