Why locals love it

Haparanda Skärgård National Park was formed in 1995, is located in part of the Norrbotten archipelago near the Finnish border. The largest island in the national park is Sandskär, an island with varied nature and an intriguing history that includes seal hunters and shipwrecked sailors. The park has an area of 60 square kilometres.

Why you should visit it

In the winter you can make your way out to the national park when there is sufficient ice cover on Bottenviken. Usually there is also a layer of snow, so it works well to go by snowmobile or skis. Summer is the period when the national park gets the most visitors. During the month of July, a tour boat operates a few days a week.

Special tip

At other times you can order a charter boat. Trips may be cancelled in the event of poor weather. There can be mosquitoes.
