Why locals love it

This one-of-a-kind building was founded by famous artists like Gustav Klimt, Koloman Moser and many more at the turn of the century. The Secession should be an adequate exhibition space for the works of these artists, the so-called Secessionist.

Why you should visit it

The Secession is a signpost for the typical Viennese style of art called Jugendstil ( also Art Nouveau), which was drawing a bow between the frigid Historism and the Modernism. Today it is still used for exhibitions and you will find works of Klimt also in there.

Special tip

Fun fact: There are bee hives on the roof producing honey, which is then sold as Vienna's city honey.

The exhibitions change 5 times a year, they are very well done, intrnationally up to date. One of the leading contemporary art venues in the world. The program is chosen by artists. The building and the Klimt Frieze are must sees!

Beautiful building and also full of historical and artistic meaning! I visited it last summer, it was the first time for me and I really like the architecture but I didn't enjoy the exhibition that was on at the moment and I regret paying so much :( Maybe it's enough from the outside!
