Knowledgeable and thoughtful, our guide Rafal gave us a comprehensive tour of the Jewish experience in Warsaw including life prior to the WWII, during the Nazi occupation, the Warsaw Ghetto, the Ghetto uprising, the "Great Deportation" and the present day community. For over 3 hours we had a quality educational tour on our first day in Warsaw, providing us with the understanding and meaningful context of the Jewish presence in Warsaw.

Description

During this tour you’ll learn about the history of Warsaw’s Jewish community and how it struggled during the World War II Nazi occupation.

You’ll visit the former Jewish ghetto and see the remains of the ghetto wall. Built in 1940, this red-brick construction effectively isolated more than 400,000 Jews from the rest of the city.

You’ll see photos of and hear stories about those times before passing Grzybowski Square (Plac Grzybowski), which was once part of the ghetto, on your way to the Nożyk Synagogue. You’ll have the chance to look around this still-operational synagogue, the only one in Warsaw to have survived World War II.

Next, you’ll venture deeper into the former “large” ghetto of Muranów, a district built on the rubble of the ghetto and adorned with modern buildings and street art. Take a walk around the Jewish Cemetery and see some of its thousands of graves.

Afterwards, bow down at the impressive Monument to the Ghetto Heroes.

If you wish, ask your guide to show you some locations from Roman Polanski’s Oscar-winning movie, The Pianist, set in Holocaust-era Warsaw.

Please note: the Nożyk Synagogue and the Jewish Cemetery are close on Saturdays.

Informative and Enjoyable
This tour was an excellent introduction to Jewish life in Warsaw before, during and after the Nazi occupation. The tour guide provided a wealth of information and was able to answer all of our questions about the history of Jewish life in the Ghetto. We visited many of the sites that we would have not known about if not for this tour. I would highly recommend this.

An impressive private Tour: Warsaw's Jewish Heritage by Retro Fiat
Our tour guide Marcin was helpful, very knowledgeable and friendly. He really knows a lot of information about the Jewish history and answered all our questions. Marcin picked us up at the hotel and he was a guide who did not look at his watch - he took time for everything. We found the Jewish cemetry the most impressive. We absolutely can recommend this tour!

B
Awesome Tour and Guide!!
I completely recommend taking this tour whilst in Warsaw. Not only was it great fun driving around in our little blue Fiat 126 but our guide and host, Konrad was exceptional. He must of completed this tour with customers hundreds of times but you never got that feeling. He was engaging, funny and so enthusiastic towards the knowledge he offered whilst we were visiting each site. It's not often that learning about history is so much fun but this was and that's down to Konrad.
The Milk bar we stopped in was also a great experience to hear about how they started and got to taste some traditional pierogi which I have to say was very tasty!
Overall, if your uncertain about paying for this trip then don't hesitate and just book it as you'll be certain to enjoy it!!
Thanks Konrad and thanks Warsaw for such and amazing experience.

Excellent way to experience Warsaw
We had a great time with Konrad, who took us on a tour of the communism era history of Poland and Warsaw. He was polite, interested and well prepared. It was a pleasure to talk with him. The little Fiat was amazing fun to drive, I'd forgotten how much effort steering an old car can be! Taking the tour in a symbol of the era adds real depth to the experience. Excellent!

Perfect tour
We did a tour in a small Fiat that brings back memories to a lot of polish people. The nice thing of the tour is that you are allowed to drive yourself. Our guide Marcin sat in the back and gave directions. He guided us to nice places around the city where we stopped and took a walk. Nice touch was to see some orginal architecture from the jewish getto. Marcin was an enthousiastic guide that worked really hard to make us feel comfortable and provide us information about warsaw's history. Nice extra service was that he took pictures of us which he later sended by email. These make a nice memory to a PERFECT experience!

Amazing Tour
We took a 3 hour self drive tour with Konrad. My partner wasn't too keen on the idea of a tour around Warsaw with me driving but by the end of it we were saying it was the best part of the holiday. The car is hilarious and you don't need to worry too much about driving around the busy roads as it seemed like Konrad did his best to keep us away from the worst roads. We were asked which kind of tour we wanted as there was an option of a few, we said we wanted a mix and that's exactly what we got. You get photos taken as you go around and these are brilliant, we love our photos with the little car. If/when we return to Warsaw I could definitely see us doing this tour again but seeing different sites as it really was that fun (and we aren't your average tour goers). The tour was excellent, the car was hilarious and Konrad had excellent knowledge.
Nice tour
It’s a nice tour for someone who doesn’t plan to go to Praha district.
The guide Olga was great and friendly with full of information
