Normal guy trying to enjoy life. I was living with a younger boyfriend/partner with whom I was happy and our family supported us, until in December 2016 he passed away of lymphoma. I am running my own eshop with flower bulbs, ornamental and fruit shrubs and trees, perenials, grasses as well as an unusual hostel in our greenhouse. In my free time I am working as a tourist guide presenting several tours. My other leisure activities are hiking, riding a bicycle, swimming, walking with dog or meeting and talking to foreign people. In 2013, I started an association called "Vypestuj Dobro" (= Grow Good), which tries to encourage people to share their surplus of garden produce with the families with children in need. I really enjoy working on it.

Highlights

  • Discover Bratislava’s lovely unknown spots with a local
  • Enjoy beautiful views from the Slavín memorial
  • Visit the cave of the Virgin Mary of Lourdes
  • Have a refreshment in the oldest (but still not touristy) beergarden

Description

Instead of sticking to conventional tourist routes, I prefer to blend in with Bratislava’s back alleys and uncover their hidden gems. If you also enjoy this way of exploring, I’ll be more than happy to show you around my hometown!

We’ll walk around former heaquarters of Slovak Comunist Party, get to know how a holy image over the main entrance of the shool from 1901 survived the socialism era, climb the hill with the unique cavalry, pass a church without a tower and visit the calmest place in town. Afterwards, we’ll have a refreshment at the oldest beergarden beneath the old chestnut trees and enjoy a glass of Budvar 10°. We’ll pass around wooden Nazi architecture houses in direction to the Slavín WWII memorial to admire the beautiful view. There will be enough time to take photos.

From Slavín we will walk downhill around many residencies of embassies to the former very popular meeting point in front of the Presidential palace, where we finish our tour.

Small group sizes (max. 12 participants) mean that you’ll have plenty of opportunity to ask questions and learn about local life.

An interesting walk with interesting conversation
Erich Seeman was our very personable guide for a our Bratislava Off the beaten track - He speaks excellent English and enjoyed discussing Slovakias history and present , while taking us through 'his' part of the city . Highly recommended if you want to gain a better insight into ordinary people's lives in this lovely city.
Fascinating insights into modern Slovakia
Erich gave me a really interesting tour of Bratislava! He shared some insights with me about the history of the city, how it developed under Soviet rule and how that has shaped the city today. Lots of great views and insider knowledge on old buildings around the city. Thanks Erich!
