This tour was really great. I visited all the main sigths of the communist era in Bucharest, including the Palace of the Parliament (about 1.5 hours tour) and Ceaușescu's house (about 45 mins). I asked my guide about a snack lunch and was taken to the local market, where I had traditional small sausages and a beer with the locals, which was great.

Description

Although almost 30 years have passed since the communist era ended in Romania, its impact can still be seen in most of the country. This is mainly because of the mass construction of buildings during that time.

Our day tour will give you an in-depth view of how Romania looked during the Ceausescu regime, both from the perspective of the common people as well as from its ruler.

After picking you up from the reception of your hotel, we’ll visit some of the metro stations built in the communist era. We’ll then visit one of the neighbourhoods built especially for the working class to see how the common people lived.

Our next stop will be the famous Palace of the Parliament, the crown jewel of the communist regime. Find out what inspired Ceausescu to build it, and discover some of his other projects.

Finally, we’ll visit the Ceausescu Residential Palace, also known as the Spring Palace (Palatul Primaverii). You’ll find out how the notorious couple lived and get an insight into their life history.

Great tour of the Communist Era

Fantastic tour with an excellent guide
This is a brilliant full day tour for anyone who is interested in the history of Romania and the Ceausescu period in particular. Our guide Florin was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and friendly and shared his personal experiences and those of his family. Even though we booked the tour at short notice he had managed to get us tickets into the People's Palace and the Spring Palace, the Ceausescu's unbelievably decadent home. He also tailored the tour to our interests, showing us an exhibition on the area of Bucharest cleared to build the parliament and taking us to the Ceausescus' tomb. An invaluable day out!

Very passionate, informative guide. Catalin answered to all of our questions on how life was in communist times compared to the times we live now and what happened in 1989. Highly recommended!

my amazing day trip from Cluj!
I was in Cluj for a day and I didn't expect to see so many things in just a day. In the morning the guide came at the hotel and we went to Turda saltmine were there are some spectacular sights. the guide provided interesting information about the things we saw. From there we went to Rimetea village where we had a delicious lunch with specifical natural products and goodies. In the afternoon we went to Alba Iulia city were we visited the old fortress and in the evening we came back to Cluj Napoca. I was both fun and interesting, due to Rolandia that provided us with the best services.
