This tour is amazing! I had limited time in Bucharest and decided to get to Bulgaria while I was closeby. SO happy I did! My tour guide, Constantine, was extremely knowledgeable about Romanian and Bulgarian history and the UNESCO sites we visited. I asked a million questions about Bucharest and the sites we visited which he so nicely answered. I could not have asked for a better day or tour guide! I would recommend this tour for small groups and individuals.

Highlights

Cross the Friendship Bridge that connects Romania and Bulgaria

Discover the UNESCO-listed Rock-Hewn Churches of Ivanovo

Description

In the morning we’ll begin our journey to Bulgaria, where many beautiful sights await us!

Our first stop will be a very famous Bulgarian church complex near the Romanian border. The Rock-Hewn Churches of Ivanovo were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979, and are highly appreciated for their impressive 13th–14th-century frescoes.

We’ll then continue our journey towards the heart of Bulgaria to visit one of the most amazing cities in the world. Veliko Tarnovo, also known as the City of the Tsars, is located on the banks of the Yàntra River and boasts an impressive medieval fortress. We'll explore the ruins of the Tsarevets Palace, visit the Patriarchal Cathedral, and check out its intriguing modern murals.

Afterwards, we’ll stop in a truly wonderful place – the famous stone village of Arbanasi. It’s the only village in Bulgaria that maintains the architectural style of medieval times.

With our batteries fully charged, we’ll drive back to Bucharest and end the tour with hotel drop off.

Great tour and great guide!!
Really enjoyable day trip into Bulgaria!
Our driver, Robert, was kind, attentive, and very keen on confirming that we were comfortable with his driving. Veliko Tarnovo was a very charming area, and the monasteries carved into mountainside areas were fascinating. All in all, we enjoyed the trip.
