Day Trip to the Neuschwanstein Castle from Munich

52 EUR

Two hours from Munich the enchanting old-world town of Füssen lies in the foothills of the Alps, framed by one of the most breathtaking natural settings in the world. Towering far above it is a sight made from the stuff of dreams – the fabulous and ethereal Neuschwanstein Castle.

Duration: 9 hours
    Available in
  • English

  • Visit the fairy tale-like Neuschwanstein Castle
  • Stop at scenic vantage points in the surrounding area
  • Enjoy postcard-perfect views of the neighbouring Hohenschwangau Castle

We’ll accompany you on the train journey from Munich to Füssen and back, and walk with you uphill to the castle’s lofty perch where it sits gleaming above a spectacular panorama of mountains, lakes and valleys.

Once we arrive, you’ll be taken on a tour of the castle by one of its experienced guides.

It’s not just about the castle, though, but also about its wonderful location. We’ll take you to the best vantage points; we’ll visit the lake (we can take a swim if time and weather permit), admire postcard-perfect views of the equally beautiful Hohenschwangau Castle, see the waterfall gorge and enjoy stunning views from the Marienbrücke bridge suspended above it all.

To visit the Neuschwanstein Castle is to step inside a fairy tale.

Please note that the trip involves an uphill walk of approximately 20 minutes. If you prefer not to walk uphill, you can take a horse-drawn carriage or a bus, though some walking will still be necessary. The availability of these options can also be limited at particularly busy times.

Great guide, explanation and smile :)
Nice weather led our tour even better!
I took the tour with Aiden, and he was the best! We actually had very bad weather, so the view of the castle was not what we expected, and because this can happen, the guide is so important. He was so much fun and knew a lot of interesting stories about the castle.
Tour guide-Thomas
Thomas our guide was amazing, great sense of humour and amazing storyteller...made a history lesson absolutely fabulous!
Great day at Neuschwastein Castle thanks to Petra!!
Thanks to a good friend of mine, who suggested visiting the Castle as a one day trip from Munich, we chose "likealocal" to travel. Our guide was Petra, a great professional and a very happy person, wiiling to give us all the information about the history and the legends of the castle and King Ludwig of Bavaria. If we would visit Munich again in the future, we would definitely choose "likealocalguide" and we hope to meet Petra again.
Love from Greece
Could have been a LOT better
Our guide didn't seem that interested in the tour himself.
A great tour
Our guide India was super friendly, knowledgeable, and down to earth. The train ride down was beautiful, the castle was exquisite, and the heavy metal sausage shop in Hohenschwangau is an oddly wonderful place for lunch. I highly recommend this tour.
Dont miss
Brillant tour
Neuschwantein Day Trip
It was a fabulous day trip and we were left wanting for more time. Our guide Dani was very informative and caring person. She had so many stories to tell and even though it started raining at the end, she completed her story before we got in. Loved this outing and special shout out for Dani for a fab trip
Fantastic tour
Jax did an excellent job as our tour quire. I highly recommend him!
Day trip to Neuschwanstein Castle with the wonderful Dani
Booked this day tour by chance on Saturday morning and we were off on the train within half an hour! Dani was the best tour guide ever - a great balance of knowledge, experience and humour making our day extra enjoyable at such a beautiful place. Everything was organised so well, leaving us feeling relaxed with enough time to explore by ourselves and as a group. Good value too!
Radius makes it easy
The Neuschwanwtein castle tour was a wonderful experience. Yes, it's a long way to go from Munich, but our guide Petra made it worth our while. She was informative and she made sure that we didn't have to do anything except tell time. Everything ran like clockwork, easy, and her friendliness was lovely. Thank you Petra, Maureen ( from Toronto)
Neuchweinstein tour is a must do!
Aidan was a fantastic guide! He did a great job telling us the history that was informative but also entertaining. The castle is beautiful inside and out. Aidan definitely made this an even more enjoyable experience.
Thanks to Austin for a great tour to neuschwanstein! Very entertaining and informative. Would definitely recommend
Neuschwanstein with Austin
Absolutely pouring rain and for the entire tour, but Austin was upbeat and knowledgeable and totally made the trip just amazing. I had visited here before on my own, but his storytelling about the whole Ludwig history made this visit so much better! And not having to walk up the hill was so nice. The tour was worth every penny, thanks for a great rainy tour Austin, you gave us a wonderful day!
Excellent tour of Neuschwanstein with Jake!
Last week, my children (both 10) and I travelled to Neuschwanstein Castle for a day trip with Jake. We had a wonderful day. Jake did a terrific job storytelling as a means of navigating us through the history of Ludwig II's life and family. He interacted with the kids and involved them appropriately. It's a very long day for travelers, even seasoned travelers, and having a guide who paced everything so well was a tremendous benefit to the overall appreciation of the castle, the man behind it and the incredible setting. I highly recommend Jake.
Firstly, the confirmation email did not indicate that we had to arrive 15 mins prior so on the day itself, we arrived 5 mins prior to the time indicated on the confirmation and was told that the group has departed. Initially Radius Tour did not offer any alternatives and simply insisted that we were late and told us to contact you if we want a refund. In the end, we had to be the ones to suggest to them to put us on the tour for the next day instead. Secondly, we had to pay an additional EUR12 on the spot, for an entry ticket to the Castle which we thought would have been included in the entire tour package which wasn't the case and not clearly indicated in the itinerary description on your website.

Thirdly, the tour guide provided by Radius Tours was essentially just a chaperon to bring us on the train to and fro. At the castle itself, the guide was not allowed to enter as the castle had their own tour guide who brought us around the inside of the castle. The schedule was also very tight and hardly left us enough time to explore the village at the bottom of the castle, so we literally travelled 2 hrs on train, 5 mins on bus, walked 45 mins uphill to the castle, just to spent 1 hr walking through the castle and had to rush off to get back. Lastly, the guide did not bother to do a headcount and almost left without a few others on the group tour who returned late to the bus. All in all, it wasn't a satisfactory experience at all.
