We were lucky to have some free time in Rome and chose this cooking class. We were taught by a very knowledgable local about the fresh produce and history of the area then was taken to a private residence to learn how to make 5 different types of pasta while our host Paula created some lovely sauces to go with our pasta. Great experience lots of fun and now I can make pasta myself at home.

Highlights

Visit the Campo de’ Fiori open-air market

Learn how to make at least 3 different types of pasta from scratch

Enjoy a fantastic 3-course meal followed by a slice of delicious homemade pie

Description

After taking a walk through Piazza Farnese, the Campo de’ Fiori open-air market, Via dei Baullari, and Piazza Navona, we’ll head to Paola's home, located in a 15th-century building in the heart of Rome, to prepare fresh pasta from scratch. Get ready for a hands-on experience!

We’ll make 2 different types of dough (with and without egg) and a minimum of 3 different pasta shapes, for example spaghetti, fettuccine, strozzapreti, maccheroncini, cavatelli and farfalle. You’ll learn how to recognise the different varieties, where they come from, and how to choose the best sauce pairings.

Once the pasta is made, we’ll show you how to make 3 different sauces. Finally, we’ll sit down together to enjoy the dishes you created! The experience ends with coffee and a slice of homemade pie made according to Nonna Maria Antonietta’s recipe.

It was the best experience during our short Roman holiday. They showed us around a bit then took us to real Roman house (this was a really extraordinary experience itself) to teach us how to make real pasta. The teachers were really passionate about Italian food and it was super interesting and enjoyable, at the end the owner of the house prepared us carbonara, amatriciana and pesto pastas and that was definitely the tasiest pastas we tried in Rome and probably one of the tastiest we have ever had. Totally worth going!
My wife and I took the cooking class offered by Once in Rome and we truly loved it. It was an exceptionally good time and a great value for the money we spent. We started with a visit to the butcher shop and the farmer's market. Then, we learned how to make three different kinds of pasta, from scratch. I feel that we learned enough that we know enough that we can now make that pasta here, at home! Also, we learned how to make three different kinds of sauce. I'm excited about teaching the kids how to make pasta, now that we're home!
