Berlin, as you may have realized, is quite a modern city. But even Berliners sometimes like to indulge in former times and take a stroll to the area of Nikolaiviertel. Berlin was founded here around the year 1200 and it is the closest the city has to an old town. Unfortunately it was completely destroyed in World War II and only rebuilt in 1987.

The area is fairly small and malicious people might say since that since the rebuilding it feels like Disneyland in midst of Berlin´s concrete-and-steel architecture. But if you are in search of wandering calm pedestrian streets, seeing some neoclassical façades and visiting St. Nicholas (the oldest church of Berlin), you should come here.
Ephraim Palais with its outstanding Rococo façade was once called "Berlin´s finest corner". It´s situated at the intersection Mühlendamm/Poststraße.
