Tour by Marta

I always wanted to cook a traditional Polish meal full of delicious, classic recepies, with great values and athics at its heart. For only 14 guests at the time in my home. I use absolutely fresh, sustainable ingredients which come from our local market or directly from our own cottage garden in the countryside outside Krakow. I enjoy taking the time to cook something really special, yummy and healthy dishes for my guests, and also spending time sharing my experiences of life in Krakow, and finding out about yours!

My favourite flavour has to be that of wild mushrooms. Half of my village is covered with forests, so mushrooms are everywhere, but still very precious. I use them in many different dishes starting with mushroom carpaccio with truffle oil, mushroom soup with sour cream topped with dry porcini, stuffed cabbage with wild mushrooms and groats, kaszotto (a kind of risotto) with... surprise : ) juniper, parsnip and parmesan . Despite working with very seasonal products I always find a place for forest goods – each time in a different form.

Check availability of the tour:

This experience takes place in Salwator, a beautiful part of Krakow not far from the Main Square (about 15 minutes by tram, and 10 by taxi).

I’ll prepare a traditional Polish meal using local produce, much of which is grown in my garden in the heart of the countryside. The meal starts with soup (probably a chicken broth or a fresh vegetable soup), followed by a main course, then pierogi, pierogi, pierogi! We’ll make these famous dumplings together using a variety of fillings.

For dessert, get ready for a delicious cheesecake with chocolate or salty caramel sauce, topped with wild berries from the garden, or a local-style apple pie.

for Marta’s tour (Marta's Kitchen in Krakow)
We were a family in the pierogi class at Matras home. It was enjoyable, tasty, fun and we recomend to do this workshop with Marta.
A great teacher and great food!

I made pierogis with Marta during my visit to Krakow. She is a great teacher and we made four different types of pierogis including tiny mushroom pierogis for her porcini based borscht and a dessert pierogi with apples and smoked plums topped with salted Caramel and a dollop of sour cream. Several takeaways - real pierogies have thin skins not thick ones like the ones you buy at the grocery store in the US, the filling need not be bland and additions like tarragon with the mushroom, mint with the potato and lemon zest with the spinach transform. And finally, Marta made me realize how even though I eat healthy and local she is much closer to the sources of her food as she makes her cottage cheese, grows and forages and evening makes fruit vodka. Food for thought too.
Lot's of fun!

Relaxed and enjoyable cooking session in Marta's lovely kitchen.
Great company, and our lunch was superb - the pierogi cooked and presented in different ways and an amazing cheesecake with caramel sauce for dessert.
Thank you for a wonderful morning.
Fantastic experience!

We had an amazing time cooking with Marta, she is such a lovely person, has experienced so much and is so open to share these experiences. Her cozy kitchen is the perfect place to gather around food and art. Some of the people who signed up for the workshop did not make it, so we ended up having a private pierogi lesson with Marta. The recipes were delicious, we prepared three types of pierogi and ended our feast with a lovely sharlotka (apple cake).

Thank you so much Marta for your hospitality, kindness and fantastic food. We will surely be back again!
